Corregi Group History

Founded in 1866, the story of the Correggi business´ long history with cork production dates back five generations as one of the oldest cork groups in the world in the town of Cervarezza, in the mountains between the regions of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna in Italy. The greatest trade in the town was the production of cork tops for wine and other products. As stated in the Cork Museum of Cervarezza; “The peculiarity of Cervarezza is the processing of the production of cork”. According to many testimonies and old documents gathered, this ancient art was lost in the mists of time and found again in Cervarezza as it became the cork capital in
the Italian peninsula.

The transhumance of pastors in the Maremma area in winter is where the opportunity to work with the product grew. Lieutenant Correggi “Tenante delicato Il Moro” was the first to explore around the forests of Tuscany and Lazio to find the product of cork to produce cork tops.
Lieutenant Correggi was the pioneer of the purchasing and later production of cork for wine in Italy which has now lasted generations and expanded to many other countries of which Correggi businesses and families are still prominent. Our historic activity back in Italy have lasted until today and our use of cork still remains an important feature of our work ethic.

The current CEO of the Corregi Group is Corredo Correggi. In this picture seated on the shoulder of his father Giovanni.

Years later, in 1972, separated the brothers, Giovanni and Battista founded SUGHERIFICIO Reggiano, to their death passed to his son and nephew Corrado, founder of the Correggi Group.

Since our days in the mountains of Italy, we have truly expanded into all the major regions of cork in southern Europe. Together with local cork and forestal experts, we have formed businesses in Porto (Portugal), Aljezur (Portugal), Andalucia (Spain), Catalonia (Spain), VAR (France), Corsica (France), Sardegna (Italia), Sicilia (Italy) and of course Reggio´Emilia (Italy) and we continue to remain present in other regions of cork in these countries. The extraction and collection of cork has always been our main objective, as well as the sale of cork tops, however with the decreased productivity of cork production due to natural as well as foreign factors over the past few decades, we have become more focused in the protection of the forest. Together with all our wide-spread functions promise to protect the forest as this is our main goal. We do so by using our product in which we invented called KIN (see patent page) to help guarantee the future of cork. These services in which all our businesses across our seven regions offer. Not only do we produce and use cork, we also use science and technology to protect the future of our cork forests (see sustainability page). Remaining active in all the cork-focused regions is very important, however protecting cork is even more vital.

Founded in 1989 by Corrado Correggi para vender el corcho comprado por nosotros sacado en las florestas en Espana y para hacer tapones en el mercado en Italia. Fue construido con 2.000 escudos portugueses que es mas o menos 10.000 euros en este dia. Ya en el primer ano facturo cerca de 100 milliones de escudos. Tendo ya desde el principio bastante éxito por nuestro método de trabajar y del respectar el cliente y el corcho. In Catalonia we have an organisation which operates within all the cork-areas of Catalonia, a región with a rich history in cork. Nowadays, Catalonia have been left with hardly any industry and the little that have remained are in control of the hands of the Portuguese multi-national. We are present in Andalucia and Catalonia to give back value to this forgotten cork market and to help guarantee the future of our product. Catalonia is a región which the biggest forest-area in Europe and therefore a group like us are needed in this zone and we are to this day developing it. We were found in 2018 with a social capital of 10.000 euros llegando a facturar 6.000.000 euros en su segundo ano de actividad. Siendo el líder de compra de corcho en el campo en Espana, quitando siempre la multinacional de corcho. La empresa tiene los mejores expertos en la compra del corcho del campo y esta dirigida Giovanni Correggi, la quinta generación de la familia Correggi para seguir el trabajo de corcho. En Barcelona tenemos un deposito de 20.000 metros cuadrados para la compra, organización y venta de corcho.
